At IFA in Germny today, Philips announced the CinemaOne which is a single-piece unit that acts as an iPOD dock, soundbar and home theater in a box. The oval unit connects to your television via HDMI port and provides surround sound via five speakers and 4-inch subwoofer.
Measuring just 10.75″ x 6.77″ x 10.75″ the Philips CinemaOne promises a great surround sound experience in a tiny box with hardly anything to configure. While it’s definitely simple, the proof will be in the sound. It remains to be seen how well a single point can generate both the bass and surround sound experience.
CinemaOne’s five channel amplifier and DSP unit can process Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG2 multichannel or stereo sound tracks and uses Philips’ proprietary sound and array processing technology to create a realistic and immersive cinema sound effect with distinct and clear dialogue, a convincingly wide sound stage and powerful deep bass.
The iPod dock allows an iPod to be controlled via the unit’s remote control while all track information can be accessed via the TV screen. The CinemaOne also includes a USB port and MP3 link to connect additional devices.
Movies can be upscaled to 1080p HD resolution with digital quality transfer to the TV via the HDMI connector. The CinemaOne also offers the high quality display of jpeg photos and includes flip, rotate, slideshow and zoom functions.
Pricing and release date have not yet been announced.
