Akai All-In-One Home Theater Speaker Stand Almost Does it All

Written on Jun 15, 2009 by Brian and filed under News

We’ve seen several unique approaches to getting good sound into a small self-contained package. One way is to embed speakers into the TV stand, thereby accomplishing two things at once. Akai has taken the TV stand home theater system to a whole new level though, including a iPod dock, AF/FM tuner and DVD drive, along with 1080p upscaling and simulated surround sound.

akai all in one HTIB

Specs

  • Docks and charges iPod
  • Compatible with CD/ DVD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/WMA/VCD/JPEG/DIVX/MPEG4
  • AM/FM radio with digital readout
  • HDMI 1080P
  • Supports USB and card audio playing
  • Built-in DVD player
  • LCD clock display
  • Composite video, S-video, Y, Cb, Cr video output
  • Supports all iPods
  • Digital coaxial & optical audio output
  • VFD Multi-function display
  •  Automatic age lock and screen protection function
  • Remote control unit
  • 2.1 + 1 track power output (double sub-woofer)
  • 4″ x 4 + 5″ x2 bass speaker 40w + 20w*2 (RMS 10% THD)

For $1000, there’s probably better ways to get sound. Even if you need a self-contained package, a nice soundbar with subwoofer will likely outperform this unit. But if you like the feature set and the design works, then go for it. [via Audion]
