Onkyo has announced two new home theater in a box (HTiB) systems: the 7.1-channel HT-S5400 and the 5.1-channel HT-S3400. The receivers feature four HDMI inputs and one output plus support for 3D video.

The receivers of both systems also support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio plus an Audio Return Channel. Both receivers also support Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Audyssey Dynamic Volume, which automatically level the volume of loud TV commercials.

The HT-S5400 7.1 system has the most extensive feature set of the two systems. Thanks to two extra audio channels it can support Dolby Pro Logic IIz which improves surround sound performance plus has better quality audio circuitry. The HT-S5400′s receiver also has a USB port on the front for direct connection to an iPod/iPhone. Both the HT-S3400 does not include the USB port. Both systems include a subwoofer.

Pricing and Availability

The Onkyo HT-S5400 and the HT-S3400 will be available at retail in April for MSRP $599 and $379, respectively.

Onkyo has introduced the first 3D-ready home theater in a box (HTiB) system with THX I/S certification.

The HT-S9300THX home theater system includes seven loudspeakers, a subwoofer, and a receiver. The receiver has four 3D-ready HDMI v1.4a inputs and can upscale video from any input source to 1080p full HD resolution. Other technologies included in the receiver include Dolby & DTS high definition audio processing, Dolby ProLogic IIz height channel processing, and other sound processing features from THX, Audyssey, and Onkyo.

The HT-S9300THX has THX I/S certification. The system’s front loudspeakers have THX-developed dual-woofer arrays. The THX Surround EX feature has various listening modes for music, movies, and games, and THX Loudness Plus is a volume-control technology that helps maintain surround impact at low listening levels.

Onkyo claims the HT-S9300THX has easy surround sound speaker setup. It features Audyssey 2EQ room acoustics correction technology.

A proprietary rear-panel Universal Port can be used to connect an optional Onkyo UP-A1 dock for iPod/iPhone and UP-HT1 HD Radio tuner module.

The Onkyo HT-S9300THX will be available at the end of July for MSRP $1,099.99.

Onkyo has released two new 7.1-channel home theater in a box systems. The HT-S7200 and HT-S6200 both include AV receivers with 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs, 130 watts-per-channel, and Onkyo’s U-Port iPod dock. Unfortunately Onkyo still doesn’t bundle an optical player, so buyers of this system will have to add a DVD player of their choice to both systems. These two systems replace the HT-S7100 and HT-S6100 which were released about a year ago.

Onkyo HT-S7200

In terms of specs, the two systems are actually very similar. Both have the same AV receiver, though the HT-S7200 comes with five HDMI 1.3a inputs (1080p compatible) where the HT-S6200 only has four. The HT-S7200 also incorporates upscaling of component and composite video sources to 1080i. Both include audio processing for every major surround format, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio lossless audio formats, as well as Dolby’s new ProLogic IIz algorithm.

Onkyo HT-S6200

Both systems include seven speakers that come with high gloss black finish. Onkyo’s HT-S7200 features dual-drive tallboy front speakers with dual 3-1/4-inch woofers and a 1-inch balanced dome tweeter, a horizontal center channel with the same drivers, and four satellite surrounds. The HT-S6200 uses bookshelf sized speakers with single 4-inch woofers and 1-inch balanced dome tweeter on the three front speakers and 3-1/4-inch full range speakers for the surrounds. Both systems will fill your room with sound though, especially in the bass levels with a 10″ 230-watt bass reflex subwoofer.

Like most HTiB systems, these come with acoustic correction technology to make sure good an balanced sound gets delivered. In this case Onkyo includes their Audyssey 2EQ room correction and calibration system, Audyssey Dynamic EQ, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume.

The Onkyo HT-S7200 and HT-S6200 are now available for a suggested $899 and $699 each, respectively.

Later this fall Best Buy’s professional Home Theater installation service will start selling Onkyo’s home theater line, likely including some of their home theater in a box solutions. Onkyo is well-known as a quality brand, but to this point, it’s difficult for consumers to find their products outside of specialty retailers.

“Having Onkyo A/V receivers and components sold though Magnolia Home Theater is one of the most exciting developments in my 15 years at Onkyo,” said Tom Ishii, Executive Vice President of Onkyo USA. “Magnolia’s 50 year history and experience as a premier home audio and video retailer coupled with Onkyo’s 60 year plus experience as a high end manufacturer of audio products is a relationship we look forward to growing for many years to come.”

The available Onkyo products will be available in standalone Magnolia stores and in Best Buy locations that have dedicated Magnolia locations within the store. None of the new Onkyo home theater products will be available in the main Best Buy home theater aisles.

Onkyo has launched two new 7.1-channel home theater in a box systems; the HT-S7100 and the HT-S6100. Both systems feature 130 watt-per-channel A/V receivers with HDMI inputs for up to four sources. The receivers are paired with a high performance 7.1-channel speaker and active subwoofer package, and the requisite iPod dock.

Onkyo HT-S6100

The HDMI inputs in both the HT-S7100 and HT-S6100 A/V receivers include support for 1080p video and DeepColor™ capability. There is internal audio processing for the latest Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio formats. For video, the receivers include Faroudja DCDi Edge processing that is capable of upscaling all video inputs to 1080i resolution for output via HDMI, improving picture quality and simplifying the connection to HD video displays.

HT-S7100 and HT-S6100 Speakers

Onkyo’s HT-S7100 and HT-S6100 each feature seven satellite speakers and a powerful subwoofer for deep bass reproduction. The front L/R and horizontal center channel speakers each feature a pair of 3-1/8 inch cone woofers and a high quality 1-inch balanced tweeter. For a coherent and timbre-matched surround field, the included surround speakers each use the same drivers as the front speakers, but employ only a single woofer. Each system includes a high-power downfiring subwoofer with a 10-inch cone driver with an internal 290 watt amplification module. All crossover points in each system can be set to any of eight possible settings for ideal integration with the environment and listener preferences. The HT-S7100 also comes with two speaker stands.

Each of the new systems includes the highly acclaimed Audyssey 2EQ room correction and calibration system, greatly improving and speeding up setup and optimization of the loudspeaker system in any environment. They also employ Audyssey’s Dynamic EQ algorithm, which refines the system’s frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment to compensate for deteriorations in the listening experience at different volume levels. When used in combination with the Audyssey 2EQ system, this feature tailors the receiver’s output to correct for room acoustics, listening position, and playback-level distortions, delivering an overall experience that is a much closer match to what the audio production engineers originally intended.

Onkyo iPOD Dock

The Onkyo HT-S7100 and HT-R6100 each include a version of Onkyo’s exclusive iPod dock/charging units. The HT-S7100 features the A/V capable DS-A1XP dock, while the HT-S6100 includes the audio-only DS-A1L.

System Remote

Both of the systems include a full-function RI (Remote Interactive) remote control and Onkyo’s RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) capability allows them to seamlessly integrate with other leading brand-name devices. Each includes a 30-preset AM/FM tuner. The HT-S7100 is also Sirius Satellite Radio Ready for those desiring to add this service to their entertainment system.

Price and Availability

The Onkyo HT-S7100 will be available in August at a suggested retail price of $799. The HT-S6100 is now shipping and has a suggested retail price of $699.

Onkyo HT-S5100

Onkyo has introduced three new home theater in a box systems, the HT-S5100, HT-S4100 and the HT-S3100. Each is bundled with an HDTV-capable audio-video receiver, five or seven surround-sound loudspeakers, subwoofer, and an included iPod docking station on two of the systems.

The HT-S5100 system comes with the 7.1 surrouns sound capable HT-R560 receiver. The HT-R560 receiver has three 1080p compatible HDMI inputs and one output. The HDMI Pass-Thru provides optimal video quality with separate connections for the audio channels. For optimum sound quality, the highly regarded Audyssey 2EQ room correction technology automatically adjusts the sound character and time delay of each speaker relative to the listening positions. Additionally, Audyssey’s Dynamic EQ adjusts sound on the fly to optimize sound quality for any volume, particularly at low listening levels.

The HT-S5100 includes advanced Dolby and DTS surround sound processing capabilities, a powerful 130-watts per channel using Onkyo’s Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), seven loudspeakers with outstanding sound quality, and a powerful 290-watt subwoofer and is Sirius Satellite Radio ready. The HT-S5100 system also includes a new dedicated Onkyo iPod dock and charging station, plus the company’s new Music Optimizer technology to enhance the dynamic range of MP3 and AAC files which are normally compressed for headphone playback.

The more affordable Onkyo HT-S4100 and HT-S3100 are 5.1-channel systems with HDTV-capable component video switching, DTS and Dolby Digital surround processing, and five loudspeakers. The HT-S4100 has a 200-watt subwoofer and included iPod dock. The HT-S3100′s subwoofer is powered by the receiver, and there is no iPod dock with this system.

All three systems include full-function remote controls, and are available in either black or silver finishes.

Pricing and Availability

The Onkyo HT-S5100, HT-S4100 and HT-S3100 will be available in April with suggested retail prices of $579, $479, and $379 each, respectively.
