Onkyo Announces New 7.1 and 5.1 HTiB Systems

Onkyo has announced two new home theater in a box (HTiB) systems: the 7.1-channel HT-S5400 and the 5.1-channel HT-S3400. The receivers feature four HDMI inputs and one output plus support for 3D video.

Samsung HT-BD1250 5.1 HTiB with Blu-ray Announced

Of their three home theater CES releases, Samsung is the least forthcoming about the HT-BD1250 Blu-ray HTiB system. It is a full 5.1 system though with Blu-ray, 1,000 watts of power and kelp speakers like the BD7200.

Samsung HT-BD8200 Soundbar with Blu-ray and Wireless Subwoofer Announced

Polk Announces SoundBar SDA with Wireless Subwoofer

Yamaha DVX-700 2.1 HTiB System Announced

VIZIO Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer Announced

Focus Enhancements Seeks to Make HTiB Systems Wireless

Wireless speakers are showing up in several home theater systems. But thus far it’s generally just the two rear satellites in 5.1 or 7.1 systems that are set up to be wireless. At CES this coming January, Focus Enhancements will be showing of a new wireless multichannel audio technology that they claim will produce nearly identical sound to wired systems.

Are Movie Theaters Being Killed Off by Home Theaters?

Every so often it becomes popular for mainstream media types to declare the death of the movie theater because of some new technology innovation. The movie theater system has died a few times due to Betamax, VHS, DVD and now Blu-ray. But really, as good as home theater systems are these days, they’re still not a replacement for movie theaters.
